The construction cranes over La Cienega Boulevard signal the much-anticipated $500M renovation of the Beverly Center has begun. Taubman Centers Inc announced the makeover earlier this year. As part of the renovation, the mall will feature a new streetscape; street-level restaurants that open to West Third Street; a smart parking system; new, interior skylights; and a gourmet food hall (THE STREET) by chef Michael Mina on the mall’s eighth level, among other additions, according to Urbanize LA. “American Hustle” producer Megan Ellison, daughter of billionaire Oracle chairman Larry Ellison, has some serious real estate hustle. The prolific Hollywood producer, who’s produced movies such as “Zero Dark Thirty” and “Her,” has paid $40 million for five contiguous buildings in West Hollywood for her production company, Annapurna Pictures, according to the L.A. The renovation of the famed Cecil Hotel, now known as Stay on Main, in downtown LA is expected to cost $100M. The building will have 301 micro-apartments and a boutique hotel. Simon Baron Development has a 99-year ground lease on the property signed with the building's owner, 248 Haynes Hotel Associates. Out of the building's 600 rooms, 301 of them are subject to preservation under a city ordinance, and since 30 are occupied, the tenants would be eligible for permanent or temporary relocation benefits, according to the LA Times. Hollywood’s Redbury Hotel sells for $40.9M to Seattle investment firm

Seattle-based Vulcan Real Estate is just the latest out-of-state investor to bet on the Los Angeles hotel market. The company has acquired Hollywood’s Redbury Hotel from a partnership led by Pebblebrook Hotel Trust for $40.09 million, according to an announcement from Pebblebrook. That’s a sizable jump over the $34 million the company paid for the 57-room luxury hotel, which is located at the iconic corner of Hollywood and Vine Streets, in 2013. Santa Monica leapt to take the silver in luxury home sales in the first quarter of 2016, according to a new report by Sotheby’s. The Santa Monica submarket jumped four spots since this time last year to tie with Pacific Palisades, where the number of luxury home sales decreased between the same periods. Beverly Hills remained at the top, with 27 home sold this year — a 23 percent increase over the 22 homes sold in the 2015 report. Businesses added a solid 200,000 net jobs this month, according to a closely watched private survey released Wednesday, as the U.S. labor market continued to strengthen even as overall economic growth appears to be slowing. The job growth in the report from payroll firm Automatic Data Processing was a bit slower than in February, which was revised down to 205,000 from an initial estimate of 214,000.
